Bearwolf and Fidget
Bearwolf and Fidget
This is first story in the series "The Adventures of Bearwolf", featuring the two friends and all their neighbours on the surrounding islands (The Baldrus, the penguineapigs, Mr Giraffe, Professor Yessir and the Moles).
One day, while Fidget is exploring down by the beach, she finds a Predictascope. It lets her see what everybody else is doing wrong, and she can see a massive wave coming from the next door island. So she tells Bearwolf and together they set off on an adventure to find who is causing the wave. However, each time they think they've found the source of the problem, it turns out they have one more step to go... until ultimately they learn that sometimes the hardest problems to see are the ones that start closer to home.
During the adventure, Fidget learns she shouldn’t be so quick to judge people and Bearwolf learns that even his small actions can have big consequences for others.
'Bearwolf and Fidget' is a fun-packed and thoughtful adventure around a magical world of real and imaginary animals. It gently explores issues such as how to solve problems together and not rushing to blame things on others, while encouraging empathy and interconnectedness.
There are refrains which younger listeners will quickly start to recognise and enjoy ('A problem for you is a problem for me...'). As well as some deeper structural interest for older listeners - the plot takes us on a journey the long way around, so that in the end Bearwolf discovers that the start of the problems wasn't any of the others, but he himself, blowing massive bubbles that Fidget had already warned him were a bad idea at the start of the story...
The stories are available in various editions. 'The Adventures of Bearwolf' contains all 7 of the other stories, 5 of which are also available separately in single story editions like this one. This first story, Bearwolf and Fidget, is also available in a full picture book format.
